Jack Lau, Ph.D.

Jack first obtained his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, under the Honors Degree Program.  While at Berkeley, he was a recipient of the UC Berkeley Alumni Scholarship, Unisys Scholarship, Cray Research Scholarship and Coca Cola Scholarship.  He had subsequently worked at Hewlett Packard, and Schlumberger, and a startup in the Silicon Valley. 

 

Jack completed his doctorate study in Electronic Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1994 and became the university's first PhD graduate.  He then continued his post-doctoral research at Stanford University. In 1998, after returning to the Faculty of Electronic Engineering of HKUST, he received his tenure there.  His research areas at that time were consumer electronics and wireless circuits.  Jack is also passionate in his teaching. He received a Teaching Appreciation Award from the School of Engineering of HKUST in 1995.

  

Jack completed his Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program in 2010.

Jack is a recipient of the 10 Most Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong (2000), Young Industrialist Award (2005), and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 China award. In 2010, he was bestowed an Honorary Fellowship at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. 

He is also a holder of a number of United States Patent.

He is appointed as a member of a number of technology funding boards by the Hong Kong SAR Government.   And, he is currently the Chairman of the Outreach sub-committee of the Council at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
